Joseph Martel was one of the master silversmiths in Paris at the turn of the 19th century. Each piece is marked with the French Minerva small guarantee mark of the first standard. You need a microscope to see it. The first standard makes this 950/1000 silver, higher than sterling. The maker’s mark is JM with a bar and two stars. This piece circa 1880 – 1900, is made from hand faceted cut glass. Hand constructed ornate baroque style design. In good condition it stands 4 ½ inches tall x 4 inches wide. It weighs 325 grams.
